Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Aesthetic Movement bamboo furniture emerged in the late nineteenth century, inspired by Japanese design principles and the Anglo-Japanese aesthetic. Pieces typically feature split or whole bamboo framework, combined with decorative Japanese-style lacquered panels, pyrographed motifs, or embossed japanned paper.

These items were constructed using hollow bamboo stems for the primary framing, often reinforced with pine or oak internal supports. Panels were frequently decorated with embossed leatherette, lacquered paper, or papier-mache, while glass was fitted into the doors for cabinet display.

Authentic pieces display natural variations in the bamboo nodes, hand-fitted joinery with dowels or pins, and aged patination on wooden surfaces. Original items often contain backing panels made from pine or poplar and display subtle wear around handles and structural joints.

Position the piece as an accent cabinet in a living room, hallway, or conservatory to store books, ceramics, or botanical specimens. Its warm natural timber tones pair well with contemporary neutral palettes, indoor greenery, and textured natural fabrics.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft-bristled brush to reach around bamboo nodes. Avoid liquid cleaners or excessive humidity, which can warp bamboo fibres or damage decorative paper and lacquer panels.
