Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Welsh dresser base is a historic item of regional British vernacular furniture, designed primarily as a low storage server with drawers and often an open lower shelf known as a potboard. Originating in rural Wales and border counties, these functional pieces were used in kitchens and dining areas for food preparation and tableware storage.

Dresser bases were primarily constructed from locally sourced native hardwoods, most commonly solid oak, pine, elm, or fruitwood. Construction techniques relied on mortise and tenon joinery, hand-planed timbers, wooden pegs, and brass drop handles.

Authentic period pieces display evidence of hand-tooling, such as pit-saw marks on back panels, hand-dovetailed drawer joints, and natural timber shrinkage over time. Look for original brass ironmongery, uneven wear on the lower potboard or feet, and structural pegging along the frame.

A dresser base functions effectively as a hallway console, a dining room sideboard, or a living room focal point. Designers often style the upper surface with lamps or ceramic vessels, utilising the lower potboard for woven baskets or folded textiles to balance historic character with modern functionality.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the timber finish. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent warping or splitting of the solid timber panels.
