Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in eighteenth-century France, the etagere was designed as a light, open-shelved table or stand used to display small ornaments and curiosities. During the late nineteenth century, English cabinet makers frequently reproduced these French Rococo designs, combining delicate cabriole legs with intricate floral marquetry.

These tables are constructed using a hardwood frame surfaced with contrasting wood veneers such as rosewood, satinwood, and kingwood to create marquetry patterns. Decorative edges and leg joints are fitted with cast ormolu or gilded bronze mounts to protect the corners and add ornamental detail.

Authentic pieces often feature maker stamps or metal plaques from recognized firms, such as Edwards & Roberts, along top drawer edges or undersides. Look for hand-cut wood veneers, original cast bronze mounts with aged gilding, and signs of hand-planed joinery on the underside.

Place the table alongside contemporary seating as an occasional side table or position it in a hallway alcove. The multi-tiered design provides functional surfaces for books, lamps, or small ceramic objects while bridging classical and contemporary decor.

Keep the furniture in a climate-controlled room away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the wood veneers from lifting or cracking. Clean the marquetry with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid using harsh chemical cleaners on the ormolu mounts to preserve the historic patina.
