Billy Hunt & Co. has dated this Victorian Chinoiserie Lacquered Sofa to the 1890s.
.. Numerous polishing periods go into the true technique of japanning, quality pieces will appear to have deep layers of gloss with the sheen of fine marble, but true antique pieces like the sofa will show signs of age and wear.

Proving comfortable, with good springs and webbing to be base of the seat and of great scale, the lacquered decoration has wear in all of the expected areas, most notably to the arms displaying a nice genuine fine patination. The cream woven damask upholstery is clean with feather filled seat cushions and a pair of smaller cushions with little wear which could still be retained and happily used. Mark our upholsterer would charge £860 plus VAT to reupholster in the same style retaining the feather cushions. You would require approximately 8 metres of fabric which we are happy to assist in finding if you wish - please discuss after purchasing.

The sofa sits well with genuine aging, a few of the castors have historic replacements but not an issue and we have the odd loss or two to the feet but again not new or affecting its use. We have ensured the piece is clean and ready for use.
