Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A chatelaine scent bottle is a miniature perfume container equipped with a ring or chain mount, designed to attach to a belt-mounted clip known as a chatelaine. Popular throughout the nineteenth century, these functional accessories allowed individuals to carry fragrances on their person.

Nineteenth-century scent bottles were commonly crafted using blown or moulded glass, including satin, frosted, or overlay glass. Mounts and caps were typically made from metals such as gilded bronze (ormolu), silver, or brass, often enhanced with enamel decoration or gemstone embellishments.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces often exhibit hand-applied enamel decoration, fine gilding, and minor surface irregularities consistent with period glass production. Look for period-appropriate metal mountings, screw-top or stopper closures, and subtle hand-finishing marks along original joins.

Miniature scent bottles work exceptionally well when styled atop a mirrored vanity tray, placed within a glass cloche, or arranged on a dressing table. They can also be integrated into curated wall-mounted shadow boxes or displayed alongside vintage jewellery collections.

Clean the exterior gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to avoid lifting fragile enamel work or rubbing off delicate gilding. Avoid immersing the bottle in liquid or using chemical cleaners, as moisture can damage internal stopper seals and degrade metal patinas.
