Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pounce pot is a small container with a perforated top used to hold pounce, a powder made from crushed cuttlebone or gum sandarac. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, pounce was sprinkled over rough paper or scraped parchment to smooth the surface and prevent ink from bleeding.

Pearlware pounce pots were crafted from earthenware covered with a lead glaze containing cobalt oxide, which gave the body a characteristic bluish-white appearance. Decorators applied enamels by hand and often added gilded borders before final firing.

Authentic Regency pearlware displays a faint blue pooling in cut corners, rims, and recesses due to the cobalt content in the glaze. Hand-painted enamel decoration typically exhibits minor surface irregularities, and foot rims often show slight wear consistent with two centuries of handling.

An antique pounce pot functions as a refined accent piece on an executive desk, a library bookshelf, or a styled tray on a console. Its compact proportion and detailed hand painting make it suitable for display alongside leather-bound volumes and antique brass accessories.

Clean antique pearlware gently with a dry, soft-bristled brush or microfiber cloth to remove dust. Avoid immersing the piece in water, using chemical detergents, or scrubbing gilded areas, as over-cleaning can damage delicate enamel and gilt highlights.
