Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Art Nouveau cast iron umbrella stand is an entryway accessory manufactured during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, designed to hold walking canes and umbrellas. These pieces feature characteristic organic ornamentation, such as flowing foliate motifs and stylized botanical scrollwork.

These stands were produced by pouring molten iron into sand moulds, allowing for intricate pierced details and decorative relief patterns. The design typically incorporates an upper retaining ring or arm set, a vertical central column, and a heavy cast base with a removable or integrated drip pan to collect rainwater.

Authentic period stands exhibit crisp casting details, substantial weight, and natural surface patination or minor surface oxidisation in recessed areas. Many original pieces also feature foundry marks, design registration numbers, or maker stamps cast directly into the underside of the base.

Position the stand in an entrance hall or porch near the front door to provide functional storage for umbrellas and walking sticks. The dark metallic finish creates visual weight against neutral or painted plaster walls while complementing traditional timber flooring.

Keep the metal dry by regularly emptying standing water from the drip tray. Clean the surface with a soft brush or dry cloth, and apply a light coat of microcrystalline wax periodically to protect the iron finish against moisture and prevent rust formation.
