A Superb Persian Copper Charger Impressively Decorated with Engraved Repousse Work

This monumental wall charger is of the highest quality and was made in the Persian Empire, dating to the late 19th century.

This large and decorative piece has been made out of one single sheet of heavy gauge copper, which has been shaped into its circular form and finished on the reverse with a neatly folded edge.

This copper charger has exceptional quality, deeply worked repoussé work, which is beautifully hand engraved with fine detail.

Around the perimeter of the charger, there is a traditional panelled and boarderd foliate and scroll design which leads into the central fabulous three dimensional picture which shows a complicated rural scene which includes eight people and seven animals.

At the bottom figures are gathered around an open fire with a cooking pot, and by the side, there is a hopeful cat relaxing. A female is serving food. Others are gathering sticks and water.

In the background two men are working with spades in a field whilst another is ploughing with two oxen.

To the side they have a tented encampment and in the distance, there is a temple with village buildings.

This heavy charger is in excellent original condition.
