Large Oak Lancashire Dresser Base, C1800

Description

An impressive and unusual large oak dresser base with central cupboards flanked by two banks of drawers. The oak drawers and top are cross banded in mahogany, a feature typical of the late 18th / early 19th century Lancashire making tradition, alongside reeded muntins to the front at both ends. Beyond this there is a wide band of yew veneer with boxwood stringing underneath the oak top, featuring satinwood ‘shell’ inlays and the cupboard doors are mahogany veneered with satinwood inlays. The dresser is raised on ogee bracket feet. Handles are period style replacements.
