Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A sectional wall mirror, also known as a cushion or multi-plate mirror, features a central glass panel surrounded by separate framed glass border sections. Popular throughout the nineteenth century, this design was originally developed to overcome historical constraints in manufacturing singular large sheets of mirror glass.

Victorian mahogany mirrors were constructed using dense mahogany timber or fine flame mahogany veneers laid over solid softwood carcases. Decorative components were hand-carved, and the glass sections featured hand-ground bevelled edges supported by protective timber backing boards.

Authentic period mirrors feature timber backing boards showing age-related shrinkage, hand-cut joinery, and original silvered glass with subtle desilveration or foxing. The hand-carved decorative elements will display natural minor asymmetries compared to modern machine-moulded reproductions.

Positioning a large mahogany sectional mirror above a fireplace mantelpiece or a sleek contemporary sideboard creates a focal point. The rich timber tones provide contrast against muted, neutral, or dark wall paint while reflecting ambient light across the room.

Dust the mahogany frame regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice per year following the wood grain. Avoid spraying chemical glass cleaners directly onto the glass plates, as liquid infiltration can ruin the timber frame and silvering.
