Description

A large decorated terracotta Etruscan style Column Krater, Naples, Italy, circa 1860, after the Antique, possibly by Giustiniani.

The firm of Giustiniani was founded by Antonio Giustiniani, and moved to Naples by Antonio’s son Nicola in 1752; its most successful period was in the early 19th century under the direction of Nicola's son, Biagio. The firm specialised in producing copies of Ancient vases and vessels, the use of ancient forms and decoration, in response to the tastes of the period. The firm closed shortly after 1885.
