Anthony Short Antiques has dated this Leather Captains Desk Armchair to the 19th Century.
This is a top quality, original piece that combines comfort, elegance and outstanding craftsmanship.

The armchair features a beautifully curved leather scroll back, supported by a fine bank of reeded turned spindles, with two larger spindles at the front on each side adding presence and strength. The generous sprung, stuff over brown leather seat is deep-buttoned for comfort and finished with brass stud detailing around the edge, set above a moulded, reeded bow front rail with symmetrical frieze mouldings for added refinement.

Standing on bold ring turned mahogany front legs and swept rear legs, the chair is raised on original brass and red porcelain castors, allowing it to move easily while retaining its period character. The solid mahogany frame is richly coloured, with a mid-brown tone and original polish that has developed a wonderful depth of hue and patina over time. The seat height of 50cm makes it practical for both home and office use.

In very good original condition throughout, this armchair is structurally sound, highly comfortable and visually striking. Its untouched colour and patina, coupled with its refined Victorian detailing, make it a true statement piece for any interior that values fine 19th-century craftsmanship and timeless style.
