Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

18th-century portraiture from the Georgian era is defined by formal compositions, naturalistic skin tones, and detailed depictions of contemporary dress, such as powdered wigs, tailored coats, and lace cravats. Artists often used dark or subtle backgrounds to highlight the subjects face and status.

Paintings from this era were rendered using hand-ground mineral pigments mixed with linseed oil, applied onto stretched linen canvas. Frames were typically constructed from carved wood, embellished with gesso and gold leaf, or styled with ebonised finishes.

Authentic period paintings show age-appropriate surface craquelure following the grain of the canvas, hand-forged nails or wooden pegs securing the stretcher, and natural oxidisation on the reverse of the linen. The frame construction will also exhibit historical joinery methods rather than modern fixings.

An antique portrait can serve as a focal point above a fireplace or console table, contrasting with clean architectural lines. Integrating period artwork into modern or minimalist rooms introduces historical texture and character to contemporary spaces.

Oil paintings should be displayed away from direct sunlight, extreme humidity, and direct heat sources to prevent cracking or warping. Dusting should be done gently with a soft dry brush, avoiding liquid cleaners or chemical polishes on either the canvas or frame.
