Description

A magnificent item of French furniture, this 18th century oak piece is in two parts, with a glazed vitrine or display cabinet at the top and drawers beneath. It will look stunning in a large room and is a wonderful quality antique.

- 3 drawer commode at the bottom.

- Lovely carving throughout, including flowers.

- Glazed top cabinet, with slightly green tinted glass.

- 3 removable shelves with lovely shaping to the front edges.

- Panelled sides.

- Cornice top.

- Heavy iron hook inside left door to hold it closed, with key to right side available.

- Paw front feet.

In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use.

A French commode vitrine, also referred to as a commode deux corps, is a traditional two-part storage cabinet combining a lower chest of drawers with an upper glazed cupboard. Originating in 18th-century France, these cabinets were designed to offer both concealed storage and visible display space.
