In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Crewelwork is a form of decorative embroidery using worsted wool yarn worked onto a linen or cotton fabric base, highly popular in seventeenth-century England. These textiles frequently depicted elaborate Tree of Life motifs influenced by imported Indian palampores and botanical illustrations of the era.

Traditional crewelwork utilised two-ply worsted wool yarn embroidered onto a sturdy linen twill or linen-cotton blend backing cloth known as fustian. The technique employs a variety of stitches, including long and short stitch, stem stitch, and French knots, to create textured surface details and graduated shading.

Authentic historical crewelwork shows uneven hand-spinning in the wool threads, natural dye variation, and characteristic reverse-side stitching detail. Older pieces often display historic wear, gentle fading of vegetable dyes, and hand-sewn seams or edge finishes rather than modern machine stitching.

Hang large embroidery panels as focal points in dining rooms, foyers, or bedrooms to introduce botanical patterns to neutral contemporary spaces. Framing the textile behind low-glare protective glass preserves the fabric while integrating into classic or eclectic interior schemes.

Display textile panels away from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat sources to prevent fibre degradation and colour fading. Avoid washing; instead, consult a professional textile conservator for cleaning and ensure the piece is supported evenly when mounted to prevent stress on the fibres.
