Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A burgomaster chair, also known as a burgermeister chair, is a circular armchair featuring a rounded backrest supported by carved oval splats, turned spindles, and a multi-legged base. Originating in 17th-century Dutch colonial settlements, the form was later reproduced extensively during the Victorian period in Great Britain.

These chairs were primarily constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, teak, padauk, or mahogany. The seating surfaces were typically finished with padded leather, close-nailed brass studs, or hand-woven cane panels.

Authentic Victorian examples often feature stamped makers marks on the timber frame, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, hand-carved heraldic or botanical splats, and a dark, aged patina across the timber.

A burgomaster chair serves as an architectural statement piece when placed alongside a writing desk, situated in a corner reading nook, or positioned in a hallway against neutral walls to highlight its distinct circular geometry.

Routine maintenance involves dusting the carved framework with a soft, dry brush and applying a natural beeswax polish along the wood grain annually. Upholstered leather components should be treated periodically with a dedicated leather conditioner to prevent drying and cracking.
