Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Nouveau alabaster sculptures from the turn of the 20th century frequently featured idealized female figures with flowing drapery, organic forms, and expressive headwear. Sculptors utilised the natural translucency and varying tones of alabaster to create realistic skin textures contrasted with patterned garments.

Artisans hand-carved alabaster, a soft gypsum or calcite mineral, using chisels, rasps, and fine abrasives to achieve a smooth polish. Multi-coloured or veined alabaster was often selected for clothing and drapery, while purer white sections were reserved for facial features.

Authentic period pieces display hand-carving marks in concealed areas, subtle variations in surface patina, and detailed carving around hair and drapery folds. The material feels cool to the touch and exhibits natural grain or translucency under light, unlike modern resin reproductions.

A sculpted bust serves as a focal point on a fireplace mantel, side console, or open shelving system. Placing the object near natural light sources highlights the translucent properties of the carved stone while adding historical balance to contemporary decor.

Alabaster is a porous, water-soluble stone that should be cleaned exclusively with a dry, soft brush or microfiber cloth. Avoid using water, liquid cleaners, or harsh chemicals, and protect the piece from high humidity and direct, intense heat sources.
