Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian glass biscuit barrel is a decorative lidded container produced during the late nineteenth century, designed to hold biscuits or baked goods at tea time while serving as an ornamental tableware piece.

These pieces were typically blown from coloured or clear lead glass, after which artisans applied vitreous enamel paints and metallic gilding before firing the vessel to fuse the decoration permanently to the surface.

Authentic Victorian enamelled glass usually features hand-applied decoration showing slight variations, evidence of hand-blown production such as pontil marks on the base, and age-appropriate wear to gilt highlights or base rims.

An antique glass biscuit barrel can be placed on a dining room sideboard, open kitchen shelving, or a coffee table as a decorative accent piece to add colour and historical texture.

Clean enamelled glass gently using warm water and a mild detergent applied with a soft cloth, avoiding abrasive pads, chemical cleaners, or immersion in hot water which can compromise delicate gilding.
