Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised in early 19th-century Britain, Regency overmantel mirrors were designed to sit horizontally above fireplace mantels to reflect architectural proportion, light, and visual space across drawing rooms.

These mirrors frequently featured timber frames faced with fine veneers such as burr maple, satinwood, or mahogany, often bordered with a gilded wood inner slip and fitted with heavy glass plates.

Authentic Regency mirrors typically exhibit hand-cut backboards, thin wood veneers, original gilding accents, and natural age-related oxidisation or foxing to the silvering on the glass plate.

Position the mirror centrally above a living room fireplace or mount it above a hallway side table to establish visual balance and amplify incoming light.

Dust the timber frame regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, apply clear beeswax sparingly along the veneer surfaces, and clean the glass plate using a damp cloth while avoiding moisture contact with the frame.
