Rare Liberty & Co Victorian Arts & Crafts Fire Bellows

1900 - 1920
Description

A rare set of antique late Victorian arts and crafts fire bellows by Liberty & Co dating from circa 1900. Great quality craftsmanship, solid hand carved oak with woven leatherwork and a brass nozzle. The front beautifully carved with Celtic Green Man, the long handles carved with trailing vine motif. The handle has two leather loops, one to keep the bellows closed, the other to hang the bellows on the wall. In good antique condition, great patina and in fully working order. Possibly designed by Archibald Knox, as similar bellows of this period have been attributed to his designs.

Daryl Bennett Liberty’s Furniture 1875-1915 The Birth of Modern Interior Design, ACC books, page 178 plate 5.45 this design illustrated in a Yuletides catalogue, 1900.
