Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Created by French sculptor Antonin Mercie in 1871, the sculpture depicts the biblical hero David sheathing his sword after defeating Goliath. The model gained immense acclaim at the Paris Salon, leading to numerous foundry castings in various sizes during the late 19th century.

French bronze figures of this era were typically cast using either the lost-wax (cire perdue) or sand casting technique. The cast bronze was then hand-chased to refine details and chemically patinated to achieve deep brown, green, or dark tones.

Authentic castings generally exhibit sharp chasing, hand-finished details, founders stamps or signatures cast into the base, and genuine chemical patination showing age-appropriate wear around highlighted areas.

Classical bronzes serve as focal points on dark wood sideboards, marble mantelpieces, or structured shelving. Their deep metallic tones provide visual weight and contrast when paired with contemporary art or neutral palettes.

Dust regularly using a soft brush or microfibre cloth. Protect the original patina by applying a thin coat of microcrystalline wax annually and buffing gently, avoiding abrasive polishes or chemical cleaners.
