Nude in a cave, thought to be Ariadne. Oil on panel. Signed, dated and numbered 'Willm. Etty 1844 Nov.'

The gilt frame with plaque ‘William Etty 1787-1849’.

Etty famously produced numerous female life studies at the Royal Academy which was close to his home in Buckingham Street. In some cases, these subjects were worked into a biblical or mythological narrative. The present composition bears a striking resemblance to Ariadne (Sold, Christies London, 2nd July 2025, lot 73).

Measurements including the frame. 59cm Wide x 47cm High.
