Marlborough Antiques & Interiors has dated this Victorian Rosewood Davenport Desk to the 1860s.
The proportions are compact yet substantial, making it both highly practical and visually striking. The desk features a gilt-tooled leather writing slope, framed within a rosewood border, opening to reveal a fitted interior with small drawers and pigeonholes. To the side sits a bank of four graduated drawers with turned wooden knobs, with corresponding faux drawers to the opposing side — a classic Davenport design detail. The top is finished with a raised gallery, while the front panel is beautifully shaped and framed with subtle carved detailing. The piece stands on turned feet and retains a wonderful depth of colour and patina throughout. A highly usable antique — ideal as a writing desk, bedside piece, or statement addition to a sitting room.
Condition: Good antique condition overall. Light age-related wear to the leather and polish, entirely in keeping with age and use. Structurally solid and ready for use.
