Technical Description
An exceptional air twist wine glass dating to the reign of King George II, circa 1750. It features a rare waisted bell-shaped bowl with a solid basal section, from which the multi-spiral air twist stem descends. A rare triple annulated collar is applied to the centre of the stem, and the glass stands on a thick conical foot.
Air twist wine glasses of the 18th century with applied collars are themselves uncommon, the most frequently encountered being the vermicular collar, appearing on approximately 2% of known examples. Annulated collars are considerably rarer still, with fewer than 0.3% of glasses exhibiting this feature.
