Technical Description
Every now and then, a truly exceptional glass comes to light. This tall 18th-century air twist wine glass, dating to circa 1750, is one such example. It features a bell-shaped bowl with a solid basal section, finely engraved with fruiting vine around the rim, above a multi-spiral air twist stem. It stands on a domed foot, also engraved with fruiting vine.
While tall 18th-century air twists are known in goblet form, a tall wine glass combining an engraved rim and an engraved domed foot is, in our experience, having handled air twists for over 20 years, is unrecorded.
To give some perspective, the glass has been placed centrally within a group image, flanked by two goblets, each standing at almost 20 cm. The wine glass to the right represents a more standard size, highlighting the proportions of the tall aitwist.
