George III Red Walnut Lowboy on Ball and Claw Feet C. 1775

Description

A wonderful small and beautiful red walnut lowboy with three drawers and original brass batswing and bail handles over a well shaped apron and all set on lovely long and elegantly shaped cabriole front legs terminating in substantial and original ball and claw feet.

The drawers with solid red walnut fronts with ogee moulded borders and all three are oak lined with original very finely worked boards and tiny hand cut dovetails.

The oversailing top with matching ogee moulded border is made from a single piece of solid red walnut and has a fantastic colour and chatoyancy. This has some old shakes in the grain – just from age and use - but not going anywhere and completely stable now.

The whole with excellent naturally developed colour and patina.

A really pretty well shaped provincial walnut lowboy in very good original condition throughout.

Dimensions are:

30 inches wide (max) 27.5 inches high and 18 inches deep.

Usable height of the drawers is – central drawer 2 inches, two flanking drawers 4 inches.
