Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pedestal desk consists of a flat writing top supported by two vertical pedestals containing drawers, separated by a central kneehole space. The style originated in Britain during the early 18th century to provide substantial storage and a large working surface for formal offices and libraries.

Desks from this era were typically framed in solid timbers such as oak, mahogany, or pine, then layered with rich mahogany or walnut veneers. Writing surfaces were commonly inset with gold-tooled leather or skiver, complemented by solid brass drop handles or swan-neck pulls.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-cut or early machine-cut dovetail joints on the drawer linings, natural wear to the underside of the drawer runners, and genuine cast brass hardware. The leather inset often shows light craquelure and authentic gilding wear consistent with age.

Place the desk centrally in a dedicated home office or library to establish an authoritative focal point. Pair it with a modern ergonomic or classic leather swivel chair, balanced by contemporary lighting and neutral wall tones to highlight the warm wood grain.

Dust the wood regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically along the grain. Clean the leather surface with a lightly dampened cloth and treat it with a specialist leather conditioner to prevent drying or cracking.
