Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Aubusson tapestries from the late 17th century are flat-woven textiles manufactured in central France, frequently depicting classical, mythological, or biblical scenes framed by foliage, architecture, and drapery. The Baroque period influence is evident in the dynamic figural compositions, narrative depth, and balanced palette of blues, greens, and ochres.

These tapestries were hand-woven on low-warp (basse-lice) looms primarily using dyed wool for the warp and weft, often supplemented with silk highlights to add lustre to clothing and flesh tones. The tight weave structure allowed weavers to execute intricate shading and detailed background landscapes.

Authentic pieces feature natural vegetable dye variation, hand-spun wool and silk yarns, and characteristic weaver marks or town monograms woven into the outer selvage border. Examination of the reverse side typically reveals uneven hand-stitching, slit-sewing repairs, and historical dye oxidation.

A large narrative tapestry can serve as a central focal point when mounted on a neutral, minimal wall above a low sideboard or console table. Integrating the muted blue and earth tones of the textile into surrounding soft furnishings creates architectural contrast and visual warmth.

Tapestries should be hung using a continuous Velcro header system stitched to a protective cotton backing to evenly distribute weight. Keep the textile away from direct sunlight, maintain stable humidity levels, and clean exclusively via gentle vacuuming through a mesh screen or consultation with a professional textile conservator.
