The instrument comprises a stack of evacuated aneroid capsules, their minute expansions and contractions in response to atmospheric pressure transmitted through a system of finely engineered levers to a recording arm with an ink stylus.The stylus records onto a rotating drum fitted with a weekly barometric chart, calibrated in millibars, driven by an internal clockwork movement. A spirit level is incorporated to ensure accurate horizontal alignment.
