London City Antiques has dated this French Ormolu Mounted Sideboard to the 1900s.

The cabinet is fitted with a central pair of doors opening to shelved storage, flanked by shaped cupboard doors and a bank of drawers. Raised on elegant tapering legs terminating in striking ormolu paw feet, with finely cast mounts throughout including classical male and female busts to the corners and a scrolling ormolu frieze beneath the marble top.

The drawers are constructed with fine hand-cut dovetails, a sign of high quality cabinetmaking, and the piece retains its original solid oak linings and secondary timbers throughout.
Pieces of this quality reflect the Louis XVI revival style, highly fashionable in France at the turn of the century. These cabinets were designed as statement pieces for formal reception rooms, used to display decorative objects, silver or porcelain while providing practical concealed storage.

The quality of the ormolu mounts and precision of the marquetry suggest a high-end Parisian workshop, in the manner of leading makers such as Linke or Krieger, known for producing exceptional exhibition-quality furniture.

A true statement piece combining scale, elegance and craftsmanship, ideal for a grand interior.
