Exceptional early 19th-century Scottish longcase clock in richly figured mahogany, signed Jn Adamson, Anstruther, a recorded East Neuk maker listed in Clockmakers & Watchmakers of Scotland. The clock presents beautifully, with a well-proportioned mahogany case displaying deep graining and a warm, rich colouring. The hood is crowned with carved cresting and turned finials, framing an elegant silvered dial with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, and a date aperture. The hands are finely pierced and typical of the period. Importantly, it is fitted with a dead-beat escapement , this type of escapement is most often associated with higher-quality longcase clocks and favoured by better 19th-century clockmakers. The movement has been fully overhauled and serviced, and the clock is in excellent working order.
