Aquatint is a intaglio printmaking technique and variant of etching where acid creates tonal areas rather than distinct lines on a copper or zinc plate, producing soft, watercolour-like gradations when printed onto paper.

Printmakers utilised metal plates dusted with powdered rosin resin, etched using nitric acid, and printed with oil-based coloured inks onto heavy cotton-rag paper using an etching press.

Authentic prints display a clear recessed indentation known as a plate mark around the image edge, alongside hand-pencilled artist signatures and titles within the lower margin.

Mount the artwork using acid-free matting within a simple oak or dark wood frame, then display it in a gallery wall arrangement, library, or hallway to complement neutral or heritage interior schemes.
