Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Console tables from this era characteristically feature classical proportions, straight or gently tapered legs, and decorative elements inspired by Greco-Roman antiquity. They were designed to sit flat against an interior wall to showcase polished timber and stone tops.

Cabinetmakers primarily used solid timbers such as walnut or mahogany, often combined with figured veneers. Surfaces frequently incorporated heavy marble or stone tops along with gilt bronze, brass, or ormolu mounts on the frieze and legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of period craftsmanship, including hand-cut joinery, hand-planed timber undersides, and natural shrinkage cracks around joints. Ormolu mounts should show age-appropriate patina and be secured with original hand-cut screws or pins.

Positioning the table in a hallway or entryway provides a functional surface for key items and decorative lighting. The contrast between warm walnut, cool stone, and gilt metal allows it to bridge traditional and minimalist modern schemes.

Dust wood regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a quality beeswax polish periodically, avoiding silicone sprays. Marble tops should be cleaned using a damp cloth with pH-neutral soap, taking care to wipe up liquid spills immediately to prevent staining.
