Peter Harris Clocks & Militaria has dated this French Bronze Classical Figure to the 19th Century.
She is richly draped in flowing classical robes, with well-defined folds and a naturalistic treatment of form. At her feet are further agricultural motifs, reinforcing the identification with Demeter.

The casting is of good quality, with crisp detail to the drapery and a particularly well-modelled face. The surface retains its original warm brown patina, attractively worn on the high points, revealing the underlying bronze.

The figure is mounted on its original stepped base, with traditional internal fixing and weighted construction typical of quality French bronzes of the period.
A decorative and evocative neoclassical subject, well suited to both traditional and period interiors.

Condition
In good overall condition consistent with age.
The bronze retains its original patinated surface, showing honest wear and rubbing to the high points, particularly to the arm and drapery, revealing the underlying metal and enhancing its character.

There are no visible cracks or structural damage. Minor surface marks and light scuffs are present, as expected with a piece of this age.
The base is solid and stable, with typical internal construction and later felt pads to the underside. Some age related wear to the black slate.
