Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

George II silver flatware, produced between 1727 and 1760, is noted for its transition from heavy Baroque forms to refined Early Georgian and Hanoverian styles. Utensils from this period frequently feature three prongs on forks, upturned handle terminals, and crisp hand-engraved crests or initials.

Authentic British silver flatware of this era was forged from sterling silver, an alloy consisting of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% copper for structural durability. Each piece was individually hand-hammered from silver bar stock rather than cast or machine-stamped.

Authentic mid-18th-century sterling silver carries a series of stamped hallmarks, including the lion passant for sterling quality, the town mark (such as the leopards head for London), a specific date letter, and the registered mark of the silversmith.

Antique silver flatware can be mixed with minimalist porcelain and modern glassware on contemporary dining tables to add historic texture. Alternatively, flatware can be displayed on a dining room sideboard or presented in a felt-lined wooden tray within a glass cabinet.

Wash silver pieces by hand in warm water with mild dish soap and dry immediately with a soft cloth. To remove tarnish and oxidisation, apply a specialised silver polish using gentle, linear strokes, avoiding harsh chemicals or dishwashers.
