English Burr Cedar Box - Penwork & Hand Painted Hunt Scene - Signed

Description

A wonderfully handsome box made from Burr Cedar with it's rich toffee colouring and decorative grain.

The hinged lid is domed, made from Beech and beautifully decorated with a pen and ink drawing of a traditional Fox Hunting scene which ha been hand coloured. The artwork is signed in the bottom right-hand corner "Betty Bannister".

The brass hinge is in perfect working condition and reveals the interior which has been professionally re-lined in a hand-marbelled paper creating an excellent clean finish; ready to use.

Dating to around 1910, the box remains in wonderful condition with a good shiny patination. 7" x 4" x 2 1/2" tall.
