A Genuine Hungarian Original Painted Cream & Teal 2 Piece Victorian Dresser

19th century
Description

This dresser is in good condition. It is totally original. The paintwork is lovely.

The dresser would look well in an old or modern property amongst similar antique pine furniture for storage. It would look great as a theatre prop. It could be stripped and waxed. To strip this with your local stripper would cost between £75-£125.

The dresser is in two pieces making it easy to move into a property. We will require a hand off the van with this into your hallway as it is very heavy.

The dresser stands on square legs and round turned front bun feet supporting the main section. There are two large doors. Each door has one panel with a lovely moulding around the edge. There is a key to lock the doors. Behind the doors there is a shelf for storage. Above there is one large drawer with a moulding and ceramic handles. The drawer has dovetail joints and is pine lined. Above there is a breadslide which is a nice feature. To the sides there are fluted columns and carved corbles. The top sits neatly upon the base and is slightly set back having a large open section and turned columns. Above this there are two large spice drawers with ceramic handles. There are two glazed doors with a moulding around the glazed panels. The top has a standard graduated cornice with a carving beneath.

This is stunning please buy with confidence!

The height is 219cm, the width is 117cm and the depth is 57cm.

Delivery Terms

WE OFFER FREE DELIVERY TO ENGLAND, WALES, AND SCOTLAND (BELOW PERTH)

Shipping /delivery is equally as important to us as the item of furniture itself. It is simple; we deliver everything personally in England / Wales so this way we are 100% sure that the item / furniture reaches our customers safe and sound. We NEVER use couriers. Delivery is generally within 7-14 days of purchase. We guarantee delivery anywhere in England / Wales within 21 days of purchase.

Deliveries to Scotland as far north as Perth are guaranteed within 6 weeks of purchase. If delivery is required above Perth in Scotland please contact James on 07957 392 074 or

james@davidhuntantiques.com for a price.

Deliveries are either carried out by David or James as one member of the team is required to stay in the warehouse, therefore we do require assistance from the van into your hallway with the item of furniture. We have set delivery days and once the van is loaded (a day prior to delivery) David will call customers to arrange a two hour delivery time slot. Customers will also receive a text when delivery is 30 minutes away.

It is really helpful if customers can provide their ‘what3words’ location to make delivery as smooth

as possible, especially properties in rural locations.

Ireland Deliveries

We do use a very good courier company called DVM Service to deliver goods to Ireland. We ask the customer to pay this company direct for the delivery charge and we then liaise with DVM regarding collection of a customer’s item of furniture to be shipped to Ireland.

Europe & Rest of the World

We do not ship to Europe or the Rest of the World.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian painted kitchen dresser is a functional two-part storage piece typically consisting of a lower cupboard or sideboard with drawers, topped by an upper glazed cabinet or open shelving. Popular across European domestic interiors during the nineteenth century, these pieces featured practical painted finishes to protect underlying softwoods.

These dressers were predominantly constructed from regional softwoods, particularly pine or fir, using mortise-and-tenon joinery along with hand-cut dovetail joints for drawers. Finishes were achieved using traditional milk paint or oil-based pigments, often layered over time to preserve the timber.

Authentic pieces display natural wear patterns concentrated around handles, feet, and high-contact edges, along with original hand-planed timber backboards. Naturally aged paint surfaces exhibit fine craquelure, historical paint layering, and gentle paint flaking rather than uniform distress.

A painted glazed dresser functions as a focal storage piece within a dining area, kitchen, or open-plan space. Displaying neutral ceramics, glassware, or folded linen inside the glazed upper section provides contrast against contemporary clean lines.

Clean the surface gently using a dry, soft lint-free cloth, avoiding liquid cleaners, solvent waxes, or abrasive chemical sprays that could lift original paint layers. Position the item away from direct radiators and moist environments to prevent timber movement.
