Gents Omega Wrist Watch, 1939

1920 - 1940
Description

Gents Omega wrist watch, 1939.

The watch has a Swiss 15-jewel 26.5 SOB hand-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 9,104,065 which dates it back to 1939.

The watch measures 30.5mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the lugs. The crown is possibly a later replacement. The case is stainless steel and it is in good condition with just the odd minor mark, nothing serious at all. The inside of the case back has the Omega logo.

The lens is in lovely condition (some natural light reflection showing in the photos).

The signed sector dial is in its original finish with original feuille shaped hands and a subsidiary seconds dial. The dial looks good to the naked eye, some marking if viewed very closely and an old repair at the bottom.

A new leather strap has been fitted.

The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Wristwatches from the late 1930s frequently featured Art Deco design influences, including sector dials, sub-seconds registers, and defined geometric cases. This era marked a transition toward compact, reliable mechanical movements housed in steel or plated cases suitable for daily wear.

Mid-twentieth-century wristwatches typically feature cases crafted from stainless steel, chrome-plated base metal, or solid gold. Dials were composed of enamelled or lacquered metal, while straps were traditionally made from genuine calfskin leather.

Authentic pieces display clear maker signatures on the dial and movement, along with accurate calibre references and serial numbers stamped inside the case back. Mechanical movements from this period show precise hand-finishing and distinct Swiss maker markings.

A vintage dress watch complements tailored suits, formal shirts, or smart-casual attire. Its refined proportions allow it to sit comfortably under a cuff, functioning as a subtle, classic accessory.

Mechanical wristwatches require professional servicing every three to five years to clean internal gears and replenish lubricants. They should be stored away from water, extreme temperatures, and strong magnetic fields to maintain accuracy.
