Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1890s.
Once the hinged lid is opened a very opulent gilded interior is revealed.

The box has a good clear hallmark for the highly sought-after Chester assay office and the year 1896, making this a true Victorian example. The makers initials G.N over R.H into a shield, for the silversmith, George Nathan & Ridley Hayes. Excellent condition. 77.1 Grams / 2.48 Troy Ounces.
