George III Pair of Antique Scottish Provincial Silver Basting Spoons, Inverness C.1810

Description

A very rare pair of antique Scottish Provincial Silver basting spoons. Made in Inverness around 1810 by Donald Fraser. They have the marks "DF INS" on the backside of the spoon. It is in the Old English style and has a Campbell family crest on the terminal withe the motto " I bear in mind" above the crest. Both spoons are in excellent condition and show little or no wear to the tips. Very collectable pieces of Scottish Provincial Silver.

Weight; 195 grams or 6.2 ozst approx

Scottish provincial silver refers to items crafted outside the main assay offices of Edinburgh and Glasgow between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. Silversmiths working in towns such as Inverness, Aberdeen, and Perth applied their own town and maker marks rather than official city assay hallmarks.
