Item Reference:

.

Dimensions:

Height – 178cm / Width – 110cm / Depth – 55cm

.

CONDITION REPORT:

In fair antique condition with signs of age and use throughout. There are surface marks, scratches and general wear consistent with age. There are age related splits to the sides, as to be expected with a piece of this age. There is also loss to the bottom drawer front (pictured) and a damaged escutcheon to the upper doors. Despite the wear, the piece remains structurally solid and sound. There is evidence of historic woodworm to the backboards, but this has long gone and been treated as a precaution. The drawers run and the cupboard is sturdy. A characterful piece with a nicely aged look.

Our experienced carpenter thoroughly inspects, repairs, and restores each item in our collection to ensure it is fully prepared for use in your home. For a clear and accurate understanding of each item's condition, we ask that you carefully review all provided photos. These images are an essential part of the description and condition report, offering important visual details regarding the item's appearance and quality.

We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A housekeepers cupboard is a large, two-part storage piece traditionally located in the utility areas or housekeepers rooms of British country houses. Designed during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, it combines a upper cupboard section with framed doors for linens and flatware alongside lower drawers for clothing or textiles.

Nineteenth-century oak furniture was constructed using solid European oak, often paired with pine or deal as secondary drawer-lining timbers. Joinery methods typically feature hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon framing, and cast brass hardware.

Authentic pieces feature signs of hand-planed timbers, irregular dovetails, and historic brass plate hardware. Look for two-part construction with pine drawer linings, field-panelled doors, and natural shrinkage marks around panel joints.

An antique housekeepers cupboard serves as functional storage in modern dining rooms, kitchens, or hallway spaces. Placing the timber piece against neutral walls or paired with minimalist decor balances traditional craftsmanship with modern design.

Maintain historical oak by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying beeswax polish once or twice a year in the direction of the wood grain. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent wood timber movement or splitting.
