Description

An utterly delightful small sized pair of mirrored brass sconces (1820 -1840, Charles X - Louis Philippe) originating from the ancestral home of the Marquis de Préaulx, Château de Tressé in Pouancé, Maine-et-Loire.

The beautiful bevelled mirror plates perfectly reflect the candlelight and the sconces are an ideal size for smaller candles.

Use with candles or can be adapted for modern wiring.

The condition: in full sturdy working order, with one of the sconces at a slight angle, commensurate with age.

Additional dimension information in cm: height 41.5, full width 19, width of mirror plate 8, depth 13.

A French mirrored wall sconce, historically referred to as a girandole, is a wall-mounted light fixture featuring a reflective glass panel framed by cast metalwork, designed to hold candles and bounce light into the surrounding room.

These fixtures were typically constructed from cast brass, bronze, or copper alloy, often finished with gilt or warm lacquer, and paired with mercury-glass or silvered glass mirror inserts.
