C19th 'black Forest' Carved Bear Stick / Umbrella Stand

A charming C19th ''Black Forest'' carved bear stick / umbrella stand; a good quality well carved example; his finely carved head with an endearing expression, open mouthed and with original glass eyes. His front paws extended to accommodate sticks and umbrellas. Standing on his hind legs on a naturistic rock work base incorporating an oval recess. Carved from Lindenwood with a good rich colour and patination.
 
''Black Forest'' bears are the work of the master craftsmen of the Swiss region of Brienz, on the northern shore of Lake Brienz, situated in the South East corner of the Canton of Bern.

Very good condition with no cracks or damage
