Taxidermy 8 Point Whitetail Deer

1900 - 1920
Description

A striking taxidermy whitetail deer shoulder mount, beautifully presented on a shield shaped wooden backboard. The mount displays a fine mature buck with well-formed antlers, natural colouring, and lifelike detailing to the face, ears, and coat. The craftsmanship is confident and sympathetic, giving the piece strong presence without feeling overly dramatic. The wooden shield-shaped plaque complements the warm tones of the fur and makes the mount easy to hang and display. The reverse retains its original fixing plate and label. A classic decorative piece for a lodge-style interior, country house, bar, study, or eclectic wall display — full of character and traditional charm.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Taxidermy mounts became prominent during the Victorian era as natural history collections gained popularity. Hides and antlers were preserved and displayed in country estates, lodges, and trophy rooms to document fauna and complement dark timber interiors.

Traditional taxidermy shoulder mounts utilise the preserved animal hide, organic antler structures, and glass insert eyes set over a modern or carved inner form. The assembly is typically affixed to a polished wooden backing plaque made from oak or walnut.

High-quality taxidermy is identified by realistic facial contours, secure ear alignment, properly fitted glass eyes, and minimal seam visibility. The hide should display consistent hair density without sign of pest damage, shedding, or visible stitching errors.

A taxidermy deer mount is commonly installed as a focal point above a mantelpiece or high on a Feature wall. It pairs well with dark wood panelling, muted earthy tones, leather furniture, or eclectic gallery wall layouts.

Maintain taxidermy by dusting gently in the direction of the hair with a soft dry cloth or feather duster. Keep the mount away from direct sunlight, excess humidity, and direct heat sources to prevent the hide from drying or fading.
