Late C19th Chinese Qing Dynasty Carved Hardwood Rectangular Centre Table with Inset Rouge Marble Panel Top .

19th century
For Sale by M Lees and Sons
Description

Late C19th Chinese Qing Dynasty carved hardwood rectangular centre table with inset rouge marble panel top.

Impressive carved ‘huali’ hardwood centre table , with traditional carved motifs and carved and pierced open-work fret friezes of ‘endless-knot’ design. The top with a highly figured inset rouge marble ‘floating’ panel. Raised on shaped carved supports with carved claw feet.

In excellent original condition, the dense hardwood has achieved a rich colour, patina and lustre to the original surface . The marble top with some minor historic scratches and fissures. The underside of the frame benefits from some extra strengthening blocks which have been added historically to provide stability, but cannot be seen viewed when the table is standing.

A highly decorative table of freestanding form and good scale and proportions to add an exotic oriental accent to an interior scheme.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Qing Dynasty furniture is recognised for its robust proportions, intricate relief carvings, and incorporation of decorative stone panels, such as marble, set within dark hardwood frames.

Tables from this period were predominantly constructed from dense tropical hardwoods like hongmu, zitan, or rosewood, combined with natural stone or rouge marble inserts.

Authentic period pieces exhibit traditional floating-panel construction, complex mortise-and-tenon joinery without metal nails, hand-carved decorative aprons, and natural wear to the wood finish and stone inserts.

A carved oriental centre table functions as a focal point in an entryway or living space, contrasting structured modern upholstery with rich dark timber and textured stone.

Clean the wood with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply beeswax sparingly, while keeping the marble surface clear of acidic substances and wiping moisture immediately with a damp cloth.
