Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

18th-century English pewter is a metal alloy composed primarily of tin, combined with copper or lead to add durability. During the Georgian era, pewter plates and chargers served as essential tableware before fine ceramics and porcelain became widely accessible.

Georgian pewter plates were cast in iron or brass moulds and finished on a lathe to create a smooth surface and defined rim. High-grade pewter contained a higher concentration of tin, producing a soft metallic lustre and greater resistance to corrosion.

Authentic 18th-century pewter often features maker touchmarks or hallmarks stamped into the metal, typically on the underside or rim. Visual indicators include subtle lathe lines, knife marks from historical use, and characteristic soft grey surface oxidisation.

Antique pewter plates make effective decorative objects when displayed vertically on dresser shelves, mounted on wall hangers, or arranged flat on sideboards. Their muted grey tone creates subtle contrast against rustic timber, dark paint, or modern minimalist backdrops.

Antique pewter requires gentle care to preserve its natural patina; wash carefully using warm soapy water and soft cloths only. Avoid abrasive cleaners, metal polishes, or dishwashers, and store items in dry conditions to prevent metal deterioration.
