A.G. Dufva

was a prominent 19th-century Swedish silver and silver plate manufacturer founded by Anders Gabriel Dufva in 1847 in Stockholm. Known for high-quality plated household items, cutlery, and decorative pieces, the company became a royal purveyor and operated until 1936. :

Founded by  Anders Gabriel Dufva (1822–1897), a trained goldsmith who established his workshop on Drottninggatan.

He was one of Sweden’s first manufacturers of silver-plated items, often producing intricate items in Art Nouveau style.

It is stamped A.G.Dufva N.S. X which refers to Axel Gabriel Dufva, the mark "N.S." stands for Nysilver, which is Swedish for "new silver" or nickel silver (an alloy of copper, nickel, and zinc, usually silver-plated).

The "X" in your query likely refers to a date letter or specific stamp.

Legacy: After 1933, the firm was incorporated into Guldsmedsaktiebolaget (GAB) but continued producing items under the name until 1936.

Pieces from A.G. Dufva are highly sought after by collectors of antique Swedish silverware.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the 19th century, Swedish silversmiths utilized electroplating techniques to craft elaborate table illuminators, frequently adopting Neo-Rococo features such as scrolling foliage, asymmetrical curves, and multiple candle branches.

These pieces typically consist of a nickel silver or brass base metal alloy coated with a layer of fine silver via electrodeposition, often reinforced internally with weighted materials for stability.

Authentic items by A.G. Dufva generally bear stamped makers marks, electroplate quality stamps, or maker initials on the underside of the base alongside typical Scandinavian design characteristics.

Positioning a multi-branch candelabra as a central element on a contemporary dining table or sideboard adds structured historical contrast against clean-lined interior surfaces.

Clean gently using a soft cloth and a specialised non-abrasive silver polish, taking care to avoid harsh chemicals or excessive rubbing that could wear through the thin silver plating.
