Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in France during the late 19th century, faux bamboo furniture gained popularity across Europe and North America as part of the Japonisme movement. Craftspeople turned woods such as pine, beech, or maple to mimic the nodes and texture of natural bamboo stems, combining East Asian aesthetic influences with traditional European cabinetmaking techniques.

These pieces were commonly constructed from light-coloured woods such as pine, carved to simulate bamboo joinery. Tops were frequently fitted with marble slabs to protect against moisture from basin washing, accompanied by mirrored superstructures and small jewellery drawers.

Authentic period examples feature hand-turned wooden nodes rather than moulded embellishments, alongside traditional construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers. Look for natural age wear around carved joints, original marble surfaces, and hand-sawn secondary woods.

A faux bamboo dressing chest can serve as a vanity unit in a bedroom or function as a hallway sideboard. The warm wood tones and marble top pair effectively with contemporary botanical wallpapers, neutral plaster walls, and brass or ceramic accessories.

Maintain the pine structure by dusting with a soft cloth and applying a neutral beeswax sparingly along the turned surfaces. Clean the marble top using a pH-neutral cleaner to prevent staining or acid etching, avoiding harsh abrasive chemicals.
