Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Tithe pig figure groups originated in 18th and 19th-century English ceramics as satyrical depictions of the traditional church tithe, where farmers paid a tenth of their produce or livestock to the local parson.

These figures were typically press-moulded from earthenware or pearlware clay bodies, hand-assembled with ceramic slip, and finished with lead glaze and overglaze enamel paints.

Authentic pieces generally display soft pearlware glazes, slight weight irregularities, hand-painted overglaze enamel wear, and hollow or unglazed bases with small vent holes from firing.

These decorative figures work well when displayed on traditional mantelpieces, within open bookcase shelving, or alongside framed period artwork in classic interiors.

Dust gently with a soft dry brush, avoiding immersion in water or chemical detergents, as moisture can damage cold-painted enamels or penetrate crazed lead glazes.
