Elevate an empty corner with this beautiful and authentic French Provincial ''Encoignure'' (corner cabinet). Dating to the late 19th century, this piece is a wonderful example of Continental country craftsmanship, blending rustic sturdiness with elegant, hand-carved details.
Constructed from solid oak, the cabinet features a rich, deep patina and a striking natural grain. The single door opens to a spacious two-tier interior, providing practical storage while maintaining a compact footprint. The door has a key and working lock.
There is some old dead woodworm on one of the back panel, as is typical with this type of furniture.
Key Features:
• Exquisite Hand-Carvings: The door is adorned with a central scrolled cartouche in the Louis XV style, complemented by delicate floral and foliate ''trailing'' carvings on the side stiles.
• Authentic Hardware: Retains its original ornate brass escutcheon and long traditional ''fiche'' hinges, allowing the door to swing wide for easy
... access. Includes a working key.
• Solid Construction: Built to last, featuring a scalloped apron and sturdy cabriole-style feet.
• Versatile Design: The triangular form is specifically designed to fit flush into corners, making it an ideal solution for hallways, dining rooms, or smaller living spaces.
Condition Report:
Presented in good antique condition. As is typical for solid oak furniture of this age, there is a natural vertical shrinkage split on the door panel and some light historic surface marks on the top. These features do not affect the structural integrity and only serve to enhance its 100-year-old character and authenticity.
